Overview The IBM System Storage TS3100 Tape Library Express Model and its storage management applications are designed to address capacity, performance, data protection, reliability, availability, affordability and application requirements. It is designed as a functionally rich, entry tape-storage solution incorporating LTO Ultrium tape technology. The IBM TS3100 Express model is an excellent solution for large-capacity or high-performance tape backup with or without random access. The TS3100 is also an excellent choice for tape automation for IBM System p, IBM RS/6000®, IBM System i, IBM AS/400®, IBM xSeries®, and other open systems. The IBM TS3100 Tape Library Express is well-suited for handling backup, save and restore, and archival data-storage needs for small to medium-size environments. With its single Ultrium 3 Tape Drive and 22 tape-cartridge capacity, the IBM TS3100 model is designed to leverage LTO technology to cost effectively handle growing storage requirements. The TS3100 Tape Library is configured with two removable cartridge magazines, one on the left side (10 data-cartridge slots) and one on the right (12 data-cartridge slots). Additionally, the left magazine includes a single, dedicated mail slot to help support continuous library operation while importing/exporting media. A bar-code reader is standard in the library, supporting the librarys operation in sequential or random access mode. The TS3100 also comes standard with remote management capabilities to allow for remote administration of the tape library through a Web interface. The new IBM Ultrium 3 drive has more than double the drive throughput of the second-generation LTO Ultrium Tape Drives and up to more than four times the throughput of the first-generation drive. The IBM LTO Ultrium 3 Tape Drives are designed to support up to 80-MBps native data-transfer rates. In addition, with the use of the new IBM TotalStorage® LTO Ultrium 400GB Data Cartridge, the IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drive doubles tape-cartridge physical capacity up to 400GB native physical capacity (800GB with a 2:1 compression), providing an IBM TS3100 Tape Library capacity of up to 17.6TB with a 2:1 compression or 8.8TB native. The IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drives are designed to read and write second-generation LTO Ultrium data cartridges and read LTO Ultrium 1 data cartridges with improved data rates of up to 20-MBps native data-transfer rate (40 MBps with 2:1 compression). As storage needs grow, you can build on this storage investment by moving to higher capacity and performance automated libraries employing the new IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drive technology. The IBM TS3100 Tape Library Express features Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI or native switched, 4-Gbps Fibre-Channel drive interfaces and can attach to a wide variety of open system servers. The sequential or random access library comes in a stand-alone base configuration with the option of an industry-standard 19-inch rack mount kit. The IBM TS3100 also has an LCD display and indicators for power, drive and activity, error status, and message information.
